yinepus_brat: (Blondes have more fun)
Very much enjoying April Vacation with Donovan, he's learning that people in this house like to hit each other and call it 'male bonding' and 'fun'. He's also learning not to razz the Bear when he first wakes up, no matter what time it is. Hehehehehe. I've braided his hair, and we've done the walking in the rain thing, and life is good.

And he's showing me a few things as well. Paul Potts? The winner of Britain's Got Talent, the cell phone salesman with the talent for singing Italian Opera, and such passion in his voice? Never heard of him until my 16 year old son told me about him the other night.

And you know something? For the first time in my life, I think I like Opera. Still have no clue what the words are, but - wow! What a voice.

In other news, Bear and I have found land for the hand-fasting, and we have a date - Sept 20, 2008. We have very few addresses, and a lot of people we don't even have the last names of. So sending out invites is going to be a pain in the tuckus. Another thing we don't have is money to pull it off the way we'd planned. With getting the new appt, and getting my son back this year, we just don't have the money for the big elaborate ceremony with all the attendants and honor guard and swords and all that we had had hoped for. We're really sorry about it, but in this case? Real life comes first. Now comes the sad part of having to tell some of our closest friends the bad news.

You want to love opera, look up Andrew Johnston. He's 13, on this season's BGT, and is BETTER than Paul Potts. He even rendered Simon speechless.

I shall have to look into this singer. I'm not a great fan of opera, but I always appreciate a good voice.
Congratulations! I'm sorry I haven't kept up with the news...

Ah, opera. I dated an opera singer for a while. Taught me a couple of things. 1) if the kid can't sing without a mike, he can't officially be an opera singer. Professionally trained opera singers do not use any sort of modification for their voices, it's au natural. 2) That blind dood who sings opera? Bertolli or something? He's not even a real opera singer. Real opera singers make fun of him because even though his voice is beautiful, he's not true to the form. Ah, the useless knowledge I have. I've been to the opera a few times and it's amazing. I'll tell you what, when you come here, I will take you to Seattle Opera no matter what is playing there. Nothing like seeing a real performance performed in a language you dont understand a word of, yet it still brings you to tears because you totally understand what is going on even if you dont get the words. Well, that's my two cents. Should I still buy my plane ticket even though I don't have to fly Sept 11th?

Some opera singers make fun of him. Not all. (I've got a few friends in the busienss, myself.)
But, sadly, the day has some where opear singers are now using mikes. The little "Madonna-wannabe/hip-hop" hands free ones with the wire that curves over your ear. Bugs the ever-living crap out of me to watch.

CONGRATS! ...Well I know it hasn't happened yet, but having a date and a place is really good.

And the runners up of that contest were amazing also. There was a little SIX YEAR OLD GIRL who just... well, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWNoiVrJDsE

I think Simon had the only dry eye in the house and he still adored her.

Let me help? You'd be surprised what I can do with a budget. =D

And (personally) I like opera. Not all, like a certain Italian opera set in the Wild West, but much. We should hit Boston sometime when I can get "wicked cheap" tickets...

One word

POTLUCK!!!!

Potluck is freakin' brilliant. Great idea. That way people bring a little bit of everything and really make it special. Maybe do some research on some, um, barbarian recipes? Is there such a thing? Is a pig roast a barbarian thing? I'm so undereducated in that realm....
